Prior to Riverstone Holdings, he was Chief Executive of The British Petroleum Company (1998-2007), non-executive director of Goldman Sachs (1999-2007) and Intel Corporation (1997-2006). Lord Browne was voted Most Admired CEO by Management Today from 1999 - 2002. He was knighted in 1998 and made a life peer in 2001. Riverstone Holdings LLC (UK) is an energy and power focused private equity firm founded in 2000. It has approximately $17 billion under management across six investment funds including the world's largest renewable energy fund.

Somak is member of the Executive Management Team at YES BANK, a member of the Bank's ALCO (Asset Liability Committee) and the Management Credit Committee. He is at the forefront of the Bank's Private Equity initiative having launched a Clean Technology Funds and a number of sector Funds that leverage one of the Bank's principle tenets of Knowledge Banking. Somak's deep interest in the area of sustainability has led to the rapid growth of the Bank's Responsible Banking. Somak also initiated and spearheads the Bank's pioneering Sustainable Investment. In recognition of the work done in the field of sustainability, the Bank was awarded the Emerging Market Sustainable Bank for Asia by Financial Times/ IFC Survey. Somak has over 16 years of experience in various capacities in India and Europe and in leading organizations like ICICI Ltd, Reliance Industries and Ispat Europe based out of Luxembourg. Somak holds an MBA Degree in Finance from FMS Delhi and B.E Chemical Engineering from the University of Mumbai. In addition, he has attended an Executive Development Programme on Providing Business Solutions to the Bottom of the Pyramid offered by Harvard Business School.

Detlef joined the Munich office of Siemens Venture Capital (SVC) in 2008. His areas of focus include Cleantech investments relevant for the Siemens Sector Industry consistent of industrial automation solutions, drive technologies, building technologies, lightning and mobility mainly in Europe. He is a member of several Boards of Directors including; inge watertechnologies, EnOcean and Thermosensorik. Prior to joining SVC, Detlef managed the worldwide mergers and acquisitions transactions for different Siemens entities. From 2004-2006 he was Managing Director Mergers & Acquisitions of the Siemens Communication Group, the largest division with Euro 17 bn in sales. Detlef has experience as the managing director and CFO of a Russian/German joint venture. Before that he was manager of strategic planning and has more than 5 years of experience of hands-on project management in operations. In 2000 he was a founding member of the Siemens Business Services (SBS) Venture Capital team. Detlef obtained his Ph.D. in information technology.

Marie Fossum joined Fortum in September 2008, she is heading a department working with business development and new business. She is based in Stockholm but the team is spread out in differnt countries where Fortum has operations. Before joining Fortum Marie was working as an international consultant for over 13 years, before leaving the company she had the role as Vice president in Sweden. As a consultant she was working in Asia, the Middle East and Southern Europe for different clients, mainly focusing on Telecommunication and Financial Services sector. Marie has a technical degree from university in addition to an MBA from a business school in Europe.

Harri Paloheimo is a Principal researcher at Nokia Research Center, Helsinki. In addition, he is a PhD student in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Helsinki University of Technology. He received M.Sc. degree majoring in space technology from Department of Electrical and Communications Engineering, Helsinki University of Technology in 2000. Kari Herlevi joined the Tekes/FinNode USA in August 2007. His main responsibility has been overseeing cleantech activities between US and Finland. In Silicon Valley he was also in charge of Tekes/Stanford collaboration. Kari has several years of experience in funding start-ups while working in Tekes in Helsinki. Tekes is the Finnish Funding Agency for Technology and Innovation, the main government financing and expert organisation for research and technological development in Finland. FinNode USA is a global network of resources. It's a business and technology community designed to help North American companies hook up with partners in Finland and the U.S. FinNode USA is funded by the Finnish government.

Alexander Lidgren has founded Cleantech Scandinavia, a membership network of Nordic cleantech investors. The company has grown quickly and supplies a majority of Nordic cleantech investors with cleantech knowledge, contacts and investment opportunities. Cleantech Scandinavia tracks Nordic cleantech investments and keeps an updated database of cleantech investment opportunities. He holds a M. He has an entrepreneurial background having co-founded and developed two venture backed technology companies, one later sold to a stock-listed company.

Lars G. Hassel holds a Dr. degree in accounting from Åbo Akademi University (FI) where he is professor of accounting. He is also a visiting Öhrlings' PricewaterhouseCoopers professor in accounting at Umeå School of Business (SE). Since 2006 Lars is a program director for Sustainable Investment Research Program at Mistra, the foundation for strategic environmental research. The research program acknowledges that companies and their owners in financial markets increasingly acknowledge sustainability, but many see conflicts between sustainability and the financial goals of companies. The objective of the research is to enhance the understanding of the economic value of sustainability and to advance sustainable management as a business case for sustainable development.

Before co-founding Cleantech Invest, Ms. Tarja Teppo (PhD in Industrial Management, M.Sc. in Electrical Engineering) earned her doctorate at Helsinki University of Technology conducting pioneer research on cleantech capital markets. Cleantech Invest has successfully serviced large institutional investors and utilities since the inception of the company in 2005. Clients include several multinational banks, private equity companies and utilities. Previously Ms.Teppo was a co-founder of an internal venture at Nokia Group and worked for several years for Nokia Corporation in Finland, China the United States. She has also worked for a start-up in the area of radiation detection technology.

Dr. Mika Räsänen is the CEO and founder of European Batteries Ltd (EB), a large-format lithium-ion battery system manufacturer. EB is currently finalizing its 40 million euro battery manufucturing plant in Varkaus Finland. The customers are in energy, industrial and vehicle sectors. The production is based on next generation lithium-ion iron-phosphate battery chemistry. The energy storage products provide environmental friendliness combined into high energy, power and safety.  Before founding EB, Dr. Räsänen worked for eight years in Venture Capital Industry, Finnish Industry Investments Ltd, specialized in cleantech investments. Dr. Räsänen’s background is, however, in energy and utility industry.  He worked as a consultant in Gemini Consulting in utility sector in various countries and in Helsinki Energy as a business developper. Before that he worked as a research fellow and assistant professor in Helsinki University of Technology.

 


 

Name: Mika Anttonen

Mika Anttonen M.Sc.(Tech.) is the founder and principal shareholder of the energy company St1. He began his career as a private entrepreneur in the fuel trade in 1996 and rapidly built up a diverse energy company which today pursues its vision to become a leading producer and seller of CO2-aware energy. To date, St1 has five plants producing bio-ethanol from waste using production technology that results in the cleanest transport fuel biocomponent in the world. St1 recently launched a new and unique high-ethanol fuel named Refuel RE85, containing self-produced biowaste ethanol that can reduce fossil fuel CO2 emissions in road transport by up to 80%. St1 has a network of service stations in Finland, Sweden, Norway and Poland. The company is investing heavily in industrial wind power and renewable energy generation. Before becoming an entrepreneur, Mika was employed at Neste, most recently as director of international product trading. He has years of solid experience in the international fuel trade, the decentralized production of renewable energy and private entrepreneurship. Mika is currently Chairman of the Board at St1.
 
Rene Savelsberg

Rene is responsible for managing the € 50M Sustainable Energy Technology ("SET") Fund based in Amsterdam with a pan-European investment focus. Previously, Rene held several executive positions with Philips Electronics NV, among which the responsibility for its Corporate Venturing program (1997-2005) and the responsibility for semiconductor related M&A activities (2005-2007). During this period, Rene was involved in the investment in and divestment of approximately 40 high-tech companies located in Israel, the USA and Europe as well as the successful $ 8.4B divestment of the Philips Semiconductor division, now called NXP Semiconductor. Rene holds an engineering degree in Technology Management from Technical University Eindhoven and lived and worked in Silicon Valley, USA for 10 years.

Richard Youngman is based in Cleantech Group's office in London and is responsible for the company's global membership offering - its industry-leading data, research, and conferences - as well as driving the growth of the group's activities in Europe, India and the Middle East. Most recently, he was Vice President of Research & Operations at Library House, where he ran the Library House Research team, which discovered and collected the information about high-growth companies that underpinned that company's data, analytical, and event services. Before Library House, Richard ran his own advisory firm conducting research and consulting on the measurement and evaluation of intangible assets and intellectual capital for organizations such as the European Commission. This followed nine years building a broad-based finance and research background with leading financial institutions such as ABN AMRO, Barclays Capital and BZW in the City of London. His work was centered on the debt markets and revolved around financing M&A deals and advising clients on achieving alignment between their financial and strategic plans. Richard has an MA from Cambridge University, and an MBA from Theseus International Management Institute, Sophia Antipolis, France.
